The fabulous Local History Competition
Over the second half of 2015 The Daily Sparkle ran a local history competition with £500 of cash prizes for care home residents and Activity Coordinators. The aim was to have resident’s share their local history stories which would then be made up into their very own Daily Sparkles. These could then be used to help show new residents that the home they were moving into was a full part of the local community.
The competition was a great success and we had a record number of entries – nearly 100. Four winning homes were chosen and the Daily Sparkle’s founder, Chris Harding, travelled around the country to present the cheques and certificates to all the winners.
Below are links to the four winning entries. Click on each one to see what lovely stories the residents came up with. We think this proves that many older people living in care homes are very capable of being creative and contributing their history for the benefit of others.
