The Daily Sparkle has been running for over a decade, but we are still a small, efficient team who can deliver a truly personal service and respond to our customers’ needs, sometimes in a matter of hours.
A few weeks ago, we got in touch with a care home to let them know that one of their residents, Barbara, was a runner-up in our holiday memories competition. The care home manager sadly informed us that Barbara had very recently died. With no friends or family, it was up to them to organise her funeral.
The care home manager told us: “We know so little about her and have so few resources to make it a dignified ceremony, do you think there’s any chance you could help us do something special for her?”
We really wanted to help, and so on the same day we heard from the care home manager – our team worked quickly to design and print Barbara’s holiday competition entry so it appeared in the Daily Sparkle the next day, in time for her funeral. It was a small gesture but a personal way for us – and the incredibly dedicated team at her care home – to do something for her on this important day.
Barbara’s memories of her holiday by the sea are lovely to read and it’s very special to think of so many people enjoying her story across the country.
Later that week, we rallied the team again to make a personalised Sparkling Times for a resident who was due to turn 100 on the Friday of that week. Our founder Chris personally put one together in less than 24 hours, ensuring she had her birthday Sparkles on this important milestone day.
While we are a business, we are also simply a group of people dedicated to making the lives of others better. It is our mission and our passion to bring smiles to the faces of all the residents we are lucky enough to reach with our newspapers each day; and also to support and encourage the incredible activity coordinators across the UK, who do such amazing work.
