Holiday Memories Competition

For our ‘Holidays’ competition this month, we want to involve you and your residents in recalling memories about road trips, driving holidays and adventures in the car. We are interested in your residents’ personal, funny and poignant memories, and hope that you will have just as much fun gathering them, as we will reading them.

Organising a reminiscence session to share your memories and create your entry should provide a great opportunity for conversation, and to listen and learn more about your residents’ lives and experiences. You might sit down for a one-to-one chat with a resident, or run a reminiscence session focused on holidays – perhaps everyone could sit on deckchairs and wear sunhats? If you choose to do this, make it an informal and relaxed event with objects relating to individual holiday experiences to stimulate conversation.

Use open questions to encourage the sharing of personal memories. Then, with the resident’s permission, record these memories and enter the competition. Don’t forget to add any new information from these sessions to the resident’s life history, which you keep in the care home.

Four winners will each receive a cheque for 75, and in addition, the winning entries will be reproduced as columns in the Daily Sparkle, attributed to the resident.

To enter the competition, write your resident’s story in approximately 100 words on the entry form here. All entries must be received this way to be included in the competition. You will also need your care home reference number – a four or five-digit number found in the subject line of the email which contains your Daily or Weekly Sparkles.

All entries must be received by 21st October 2019. Good luck!
