‘Reader’s Corner’ – Steve’s time as a postman

We were thrilled to receive this letter written by Steve, who attends Over The Rainbow day centre in Ripon. Steve recalls his time as a postman…

“I was born in Leeds and worked as a postman in Ripon from the age of 25. First thing in the morning we would meet in the sorting office. It was nice to see my friends, and work and sort the mail together. Then we went out on our individual rounds. I loved walking my rounds and saying hello to everyone. My favourite time of year was the lead up to Christmas. Even though it was busy, people were generally always happy to see us! Plus, it was lovely to get the odd Christmas gift or tip! Here’s a general tip to everyone from me – remember to post early for Christmas!
Best wishes, Steve
