The Swansong Project

This beautiful idea from a skilled musician and songwriter gives people who are facing end of life, and those surrounding them, the opportunity to write and record their own original song.

Run by Ben Slack, The Swansong Project allows people to put into a song all the experiences of their lives and the feelings they have about those that they love. “The songwriting process is an incredibly powerful method of exploring, articulating and communicating one’s thoughts, experiences and emotions,” explains Ben, who is a professional songwriter. “Everyone has a unique way of expressing themselves and this is what makes great songs.”

Working closely with people, Ben provides support to guide each person through finding the initial idea to the completed recording. No previous musical experience or abilities are required and every session is facilitated in a relaxed and flexible way, providing an enjoyable and rewarding artistic experience. Participants who have already written songs have commented on how proud they are of their songs and how happy they are to have a permanently recorded message to their loved ones. “Others say it has helped them come to terms with their situation and helped them articulate and communicate their feelings in a way they may not have otherwise done,” adds Ben.
