Due to the coronavirus situation, we have decided to suspend all our trainings for now. We will reschedule events once official advice allows. If you have already booked on to a training, your bookings will be secure for the rescheduled event. If you are unable to attend on the new date, we will refund you. We wish you and those you care for all the best in these challenging times.
Therapeutic Approaches to Activity
Over the last ten years, The Daily Sparkle has worked with thousands of Activity Professionals who have shared both their joy of working in care settings and also some of the challenges in meeting the demands of the role.
Our new advanced-level training day aims to address some of the more challenging aspects of providing truly person-centred activity for people with different abilities. Our Therapeutic Approaches to Activity training focuses on using evidence-based approaches and techniques to support those living with dementia.
This course will provide you with the tools and techniques to take your new learning back to your workplace and make an even greater difference.
This training will
- Increase engagement and meaningful connection with people in your dementia care setting
- Develop your understanding about distressed behaviours
- Challenge current thinking around activity in care settings
- Empower you to support others
This training has been developed by drawing together aspects of the most effective evidence-based therapeutic approaches in dementia care including:
- Reminiscence Therapy
- Cognitive Stimulation Therapy
- Validation Therapy
- Sensory and Multisensory therapies
We explore these approaches in the context of providing meaningful activity so they can be applied to your day-to-day role.
The training covers a spectrum of abilities and stages of dementia. It will help you consider the most appropriate type of activity to suit people’s different needs. In particular this training includes ways to explore meaningful engagement for those who may find the usual activity programme a challenge, such as:
- People with later-stage dementia
- People experiencing distress and anxiety
- Those who remain in their own rooms
- Those who find the regular entertainment-type activities unappealing
Throughout a powerful and thought-provoking day we provide ‘tasters’ and abbreviated versions of the therapeutic approaches.
Important note: Our training covers potential sources of distressed behaviour and uses these as the context to explore therapeutic approaches to activity. It does not replace the need for individual assessments or specialist intervention by appropriate clinical support teams.
CPD & Certification
In addition to developing their skills and knowledge, all graduates from our training package are presented with a Training Certificate which can be included with your Continuous Professional Development (CPD) log entries.
